Introduction
At Goodacoustics, we understand that exceptional guitars come from exceptional builders and exceptional materials. Terence had a stash of mastergrade Lucky Strike redwood tops from his tonewood trading days. Not only are these tops exceptionally musical when handled and tapped, but they have outstanding aesthetic and historial qualities. (see Story) After a long search, we are thrilled to present a limited series of guitars from Michael Bashkin, all featuring the highly sought after Lucky Strike, mastergrade Redwood tops. Michael is a top notch builder in his own right and we have been representing him for several years now. His experience with redwood tops as well as use of deflection testing and meticulous work only adds to his very impressive resume. Terence has also made his personal woods stash available for back and sides, and building materials for this collaboration. These include Snakewood & Brazilian rosewood back and sides, figured Cocobolo and various burls. |

The Lucky Strike Story
The Lucky Strike top is from Craig Carter’s famous log. This log was located in a north-facing freeway easement through a redwood forest. Craug estimated it had been down about 30 years. It fell downhill across a small dip, suspending the log in the air allowing it to cure in ideal conditions. The salvageable portion was about 3 feet in diameter, 60 feet long. Craig began to harvest it in Fall 1993 and final harvesting was completed by Alicia and neighbors in Spring 1997. Soundboards from this log have been made into fine steel string, arch top and classical guitars. Stiffness to weight ratio is excellent, grain pattern and coloration very even, very straight, with lots of silk. Sound characteristics combine the warmth of cedar with the clarity and color of spruce. This log set very high standards for redwood soundboards ones almost impossible to match. Craig cut into over 100 downed logs before he found one that met his exacting standards. |
